3 Reasons Never to Use Liquid Drain Cleaners Again

What should you do if the tub begins slowing draining or the kitchen sink appears backlogged? Are you tempted to grab a bottle of drain cleaner that is liquid? Take a moment as that product may not be as beneficial as you believe. Actually, it could be causing more issues than it is helping to solve.

The idea sounds appealing. Just pour a bit of the gel or liquid into the sink, and this product will take care of the rest. It is claimed that they "eat" through tricky clogs such as grease or hair. Here are three reasons not to ever use a liquid drain cleaner.

1. They aren't always successful.

In certain situations, the use of a liquid drain cleaner could perform what it's designed to do - break up the blockage and let water drain more quickly. This is only true in some instances for certain kinds of blockages. For instance, if something solid that's stuck in the pipe, the liquid cleaner will not move it. If pipes are damaged, the liquid cleaner will not be able to repair them. Therefore, before you spray chemicals down your pipes, it's crucial to determine the type of problem you're facing.

2. They are contaminated with toxic chemicals.

Did you take the time to read through the cautionary labels on the bottle of water drainer? It could cause you to think twice about opening the bottle inside your home. These products contain hazardous chemicals that are harsh and potentially harmful. The odors from the cleaning are able to recirculate through the pipes into your bathroom or kitchen. Are the health risks to your family members worth the convenience? We don't think so.

3. They can cause irreparable damage to your pipes

The chemicals are not only harmful to your health, but they also can cause harm to your pipes. One of the most commonly used components in liquid drain cleaners is hydrochloric acids, which could cause the internal breakdown of pipes. It can lead to an issue or a rupture in the future, resulting in an enormous mess and costly repair.

What can you do instead of liquid drain cleaner?

Instead of going to an empty bottle to clean the drain, the majority of minor clogs can be dealt with using the use of a plunger or vinegar plus baking soda.

However, if these techniques don't work, or aren't doing the trick, then you can call the plumbing experts.
