Wow! You've cleaned the kitchen, and the sink is sparkling. You've put all the cleaning tools aside and are now walking into the sink to wash the dish you found in your playroom. What is that smell?
A smelly sink is not uncommon, even in the cleanest kitchens. The water that remains in the sink's trap beneath your sink often allows mold and mildew to develop.
We're going to assume that you've not used any commercial drain cleaners in your kitchen sink. They can interact with different ingredients, which is why we don't wish to see that occur.
Pour 1/2 cup baking soda into the sink. If funnels are available, that's great. If not, try to be extra cautious to ensure that it lands exactly where you want it to. Then, pour one cup of white vinegar in the middle and watch to see if it reacts immediately. It will take about 15 minutes before the froth has settled, and then pour hot water down the drain for around one minute.
The combination of these two ingredients produces the formation of a natural substance that can hopefully get rid of unpleasant smells. If you suspect that your issue remains in the sink trap, give us a call. We are awestruck by smelly drain issues!
